Teen Arts Festival
Guidelines for Artwork Selected to Tour
First things first…
Originality:
Is your artwork original? This tour only accepts original artwork, which is defined as: artwork originally conceived and executed by a student, not copied from any other artist’s or photographer’s image.
Size:
Artwork larger than 36” x 36” risks the possibility of being declined.
Documentation:
It is highly recommended that you photograph your artwork before framing it. Take pictures using both color negative film and transparency slides. If you are applying to an art school, you may need both photographs and slides for your portfolio. Photographs are also important to document your work for insurance purposes.
Framing Requirements:
All artwork selected to tour in the State Teen Arts Traveling Exhibit must be professionally framed.
Absolutely no artwork may be framed behind glass; use Plexiglas.
Acrylics and oils do not need to be behind Plexiglas.
When framing pastels, use at least 1 mat to lift the Plexiglas away from the design surface. A spray fixative should also be applied.
Do not use masking tape or duct tape on original artwork – anywhere.
All works must be wired with hardware for hanging. String is not acceptable nor is wire affixed to the work with tape or glue.
Regarding frames, this is our experience about what works and what does not:
ü No clip strip frames
ü No snap together frames
ü No Lucite or acrylic box frames
ü No frameless frames attached with metal clips
ü If you use metal frames such as Nielsen, use corner A & B plates and spring clips to secure the work. Hanging hardware must be attached.
